Are you new to Linux? Let us answer some questions:
Can I install Linux on a used or older computer?
Yes! In fact, due to the lower hardware requirements, you can extend the life of a computer by up to 30-40% by installing Linux! An old sluggish computer running Windows or macOS will perform much faster running Linux.
Can I save money using Linux?
Yes! Whether you delay the purchase of a new computer, purchase a used computer, or use your existing computer a few more years, Linux will save you money while increasing performance.
Families can especially save by buying used computers for the children, while keeping them digitally private.
The most common software and applications (office suites, etc.) can be replaced with free and open source alternatives which save you money and protect your privacy.
Is Linux easy to use for a Windows or Mac user?
Yes! Linux has come a very long way as far as user friendliness and usability. For beginners we recommend starting with Zorin OS which can be configured to resemble the Windows user interface, or the macOS user interface. Other beginner friendly options include Linux Mint and Fedora.
Can I run Windows applications on Linux?
Yes, but not all. Another reason we recommend Zorin OS for those new to Linux is their Windows App Support which allows compatibility with many Windows applications that many users rely on.
It is even possible now for gamers to embrace Linux with Zorin's Gaming Compatability with major gaming platforms.
However not all applications will work. In this case you can consider installing Linux along side Windows or macOS. You then choose which operating system to boot at startup.
Can Digital Privacy Sessions install Linux on my computer for me?
Yes! We provide Privacy Installation Services for those who do not feel comfortable installing Linux on their own.
Alternatively you can book a 1 on 1 Coaching Session and we can guide you through an installation remotely.
Can Linux be installed on my computer in addition to Windows or macOS?
Yes! Upon request Digital Privacy Sessions can install Linux on your computer in addition to your existing operating system.
When you start your computer you will be able to select which operating system to launch.
This is an excellent compromise for those who need Windows or macOS for certain applications, but prefer to use Linux for privacy and personal use.
